Summer School: TUM-Imperial Global Fellows Programme - Cities of the Future
From 17-21 July 2017, the first TUM-Imperial College London Global Fellows Programme will be hosted by TUM in Burghausen. This one week summer school will bring together 50 doctoral candidates from TUM, Imperial College London and other GlobalTech partner universities who share an interest in the academic theme "Cities of the Future".
Over half the world’s population now live in cities, and this is estimated to increase to 66% by 2050. Imagining cities of the future involves considering a wide range of issues and concepts from resource allocation to the integration of migrants, from promoting healthy living to providing healthcare, from ultra-connected homes and businesses to integrated driverless transport. Furthermore, the impact of technologies, climate change and global events on urban living, infrastructure, landscape planning and socio-economic interactions offers exciting possibilities and tremendous challenges for the next generation of global researchers.
How can cities develop to improve the quality of life for the urban populations? The future is urban and this exciting programme will enable participants to develop the professional, research and collaborative skills that are needed to find workable solutions to this global challenge.
The programme will highlight some current areas of research. Participants will work together in considering the challenges and opportunities of the Cities of the Future. Furthermore, participants will be challenged to assess their research skills and develop their interdisciplinary awareness, examining opportunities to collaborate and develop research.
Application is open to doctoral candidates from all disciplines and departments. TUM Graduate School offers 20 fully funded spots which include the participation fee, transportation to the venue, accommodation, and catering. An in-depth background in the area is not required.
Deadline: 2 April 2017
