Terms of Participation

All new doctoral candidates at TUM must take part in the Kick-Off Seminar. Since the Kick-Off Seminar is in part designed to provide information and helpful tips for structuring your dissertation and for learning about the TUM-GS, we recommend participation within the first 6 months of your doctoral program. The TUM Graduate School will cover the costs of the seminar.

Registration and Travel Arrangements

In order to participate, you must be a member or temporary member of the TUM Graduate School, and register for the kick-off seminar of your choice.

The TUM-GS will take care of accommodations, food, and bus transport from TUM’s Munich City Campus (Arcisstr. 21). Unfortunately, costs for individual travel to the facility cannot be reimbursed.

In addition, the TUM-GS will create a collective travel request for all the participants, so you do not need to submit a separate qualification-travel request (Antrag auf Fortbildungsreise). If you are an external doctoral candidate, or are employed by the Isar Legal Clinic, for instance, please arrange your own qualification-travel request (Antrag auf Fortbildungsreise). In any case, please coordinate your participation with your supervisor in advance.

Cancelling your Registration

You can cancel your registration up to three weeks before the start of the seminar without any cancellation costs.

For short-term cancellations within 3 weeks of the start of the seminar, a cancellation fee of 100 euros will apply.

If you cancel on the day of the seminar or fail to appear, we will need to charge you the full 450 euros because your spot cannot be filled by anyone else.

In the event of illness, we will waive the cancellation fees. However, you must inform us of this no later than 8 am on the first day of the seminar and provide us with a doctor’s letter within 3 days.
