Kurse & Veranstaltungen |

The TUM Institute for Advanced Study invites you to the screening of the documentary “Rivers Above the Canopy”. This is the first time that the film about the Amazon rainforest is shown to the public anywhere in the world. The event takes place at the Auditorium in Lichtenbergstr. 2 a, 85748 Garching on May 20th, 2:00 – 3:30 p.m.

Synopsis: Often considered as the "beating heart of the Earth", the trees in the Amazon absorb water from the ground and pump out billion of tons of water vapor a day into vast "flying rivers", essential to the environmental balance. But what if this natural phenomenon was to disappear? What would be the ecological consequences on our planet? From the Amazon rainforest to some of the world’s top laboratories and research centers, and thanks to 3D animation sequences, this scientific investigation deciphers the mechanisms of this extraordinary phenomenon. A race against time to discover the Amazon rainforest from a climate perspective, questioning our planet’s biological equilibrium and human responsibility.

After the film, director Pascal Cuissot as well as Dr. Anastassia Makarieva (Petersburg Institute for Nuclear Science), Anna Boyksen Fellow of the IAS, member of the IESP, and one of the scientific contributors to the film, will be present to discuss the film and answer questions.
