In order to be eligible for nomination to the Schmidt Science Fellows application process, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Conduct their graduate degree in the natural sciences, engineering, math, or computing
- Expect to complete all of the requirements for the conferral of their doctorate in one of these fields between 1 May 2026 and 30 June 2027.
- Be nominated by a designated official at one of the nominating partner institutions.
- Being a Doctoral Candidate at the Technical University of Munich.

Application documents:
- Motivation letter for application (one page) showcasing the candidate's academic achievements, motivations and programmatic fit (refer to to the Schmidt Science Fellows selection criteria);
- Curriculum vitae, incl. publications, patents, scientific awards
- Summary of the dissertation
- Support letter from the doctoral supervisor
The application deadline at TUM is 24 April 2026.
Schmidt Science Fellows hosts two information sessions for prospective candidates on 23 and 24 March 2026. These sessions are open to eligible STEM and Computing PhD students at TUM who are interested in learning more about the Schmidt Science Fellows program and considering applying now or in future years.
