MCTS Public Lecture: "IT and Migration. A History of the Present”

Kurse & Veranstaltungen |

On Thursday, December 8, 2016, Prof. Dr. Annalisa Pelizza (University of Twente) will give a talk on "IT and Migration. A History of the Present".

Intensifying migration waves are transforming not only EU policies but also the way knowledge about migrants, institutions and territory is created. Information systems are key enablers of this knowledge. They materialize legislative, political, administrative dynamics in which citizenship, state and territory are co-produced.

In this talk, Annalisa Pelizza anticipates the issues that will be addressed in the contest of her incoming ERC Starting Grant “Processing Citizenship” (2017- 2022). The “Vectorial Glance” framework that informs this new endeavour aims to develop a history of the present that accounts for contemporary materially-embedded practices of migrant registration as activities of governance formation.

The Munich Colloquium on Technology in Society is designed as a series of public lectures. These lectures will be held by defining figures in the area of Science and Technology Studies and explore key issues on the crossroads of science, knowledge, technology, and social life.
