Prof. Nils Boysen (Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena): "E-commerce warehousing: Order fulfillment in modern retailing" – This talk addresses suited warehousing systems and important optimization problems in modern e-commerce retailing. E-commerce mainly processes low-volume-high-mix picking orders, because private households tend to order just a few pieces per order from a large assortment. This talk gives an overview on suited warehousing systems, which…

Prof. Bichler co-organizes the Workshop on Information Technology and Systems (WITS) on December 18-20. In a joint reception with the Workshop on Information Systems and Economics (WISE) in the Nymphenburg Palace on December 18, Professor Paul Milgrom (Department of Economics, Stanford University) will give an invited keynote. Professor Milgrom is among the most recognized and most highly cited game theorists world-wide.

Alexandros Tsigonias-Dimitriadis (TUM, AdONE): "Robust Revenue Maximization Under Minimal Statistical Information" – We study the problem of multi-dimensional revenue maximization when selling m items to a buyer that has additive valuations for them, drawn from a (possibly correlated) prior distribution. Unlike traditional Bayesian auction design, we assume that the seller has a very restricted knowledge of this prior: they only know the mean μj and an…

Layla Martin, research associate of the research training group the Advanced Optimization in a Networked Economy (RTG 2201), is visiting the Autonomous Systems Lab (Prof. Marco Pavone) at Stanford University, California, USA. Her work with Prof. Pavone focuses on Autonomous Mobility on Demand Systems, in particular the value of autonomous vehicles in mobility as a service solutions. Her six-month stay is supported by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft as part…

Dr. Thomas Lidbetter (Rutgers Business School): "A search game on a hypergraph with booby traps" – A set of n boxes, located on the vertices of a hypergraph G, contain known but different rewards. A Searcher opens all the boxes in some hyperedge of G with the objective of collecting the maximum possible total reward. Some of the boxes, however, are booby trapped. If the Searcher opens a booby trapped box, the search ends and she loses all her collected…

On Friday, 11th, nine AdONE PhD members participated in a full-day workshop on teamwork in an interdisciplinary framework. Guided by professional trainers Silvia and Carsten Rohr, the AdONE students received valuable insights into various methods of facilitating collaborations towards interdisciplinary research. The workshop kickstarted some research teams into cooperating on joint research topics as well as improved on general teamwork. We also received…

From October 7 to October 9, the AdONE group travelled to Kloster Benediktbeuern for our annual retreat. The focus of the three-day-retreat lay on interdisciplinary research, introducing new members as well as reviewing the current progress. TUM Professor Gudrun Kiesmüller was invited for a guest lecture.

Prof. Warren Powell from Princeton University will visit AdONE on April 16-17, 2020 for a two-day workshop. Prof. Powell outlines a mathematical framework for modeling problem classes in the "jungle of stochastic optimization". This framework consists of five fundamental elements (states, decisions/actions/ controls, exogenous information, transition function and objective function), and requires optimizing over policies, which is the major point of…

Adone intern Xinyu Li attended the DAAD RISE Germany 2019 Meeting in Heidelberg from July 5 to July 7. The meeting is intended to help RISE scholarship holders build connections and present their research projects. Diplomats from the RISE program participating countries, scholars and DAAD advisors delivered speeches on various topics.

On Tuesday, July 2nd, seven AdONE collegiates participated in a course on "In Science only quality matters". The course was taught by Dr. Ulla Weber who is central gender equality officer at the Max Planch Society. The participants discussed metrics on gender equality as well as strategies to overcome gender bias on an orginizational and individual level.
