Extension of enrollment of doctoral candidates to 8 semesters

Aktuelles |

With the entry into force of the new Bayerisches Hochschulinnovationsgesetz (BayHIF) as from January 1, 2023, doctoral candidates at TUM can enroll for up to 8 semesters (instead of 6 semesters). That means you can take advantage of student benefits for a longer period.

Doctoral candidates who are currently enrolled at TUM:
Doctoral candidates who are currently enrolled at TUM in their 6th semester can simply re-enroll by following the usual re-enrollment procedure. Upon payment of the semester fees, they will automatically be enrolled in their 7th semester in the summer semester 2023.

Doctoral candidates who are not enrolled at TUM:
Doctoral candidates who are not enrolled at TUM in the winter semester 2022/23 may re-apply for enrollment for the summer semester 2023. This is also applicable for candidates who were exmatriculated before due to the maximum enrollment period of 6 semesters. Upon completion of the new application for re-enrollment and payment of the semester fees, they will be re-enrolled in their 7th semester in the summer semester 2023.

Please note that although applications for the ongoing winter semester 2022/23 is possible starting from January 1, 2023, you would have to assume longer waiting times during this period. Therefore, it cannot be guaranteed that the application for re-enrollment will be processed by end of January and Student Cards can be issued and used in January. You should therefore consider whether you would prefer to apply for the 2023 summer semester directly.
