Global Perspectives - Research Collaborations across the Globe
Starting in 2025, Research Collaborations across the Globe invites TUM doctoral candidates and master’s students considering a doctorate to explore new pathways for international research partnerships. The series highlights regions in the 'Global South‘ as key partners in addressing shared challenges such as climate change, health crises, and sustainable development.
Across several sessions, participants gain practical insights, meet peers and experts, and learn about research environments in Latin America, India, Southeast Asia, and sub‑Saharan Africa. Each event focuses on a single region and features keynotes, panel discussions, and interactive formats with doctoral candidates and senior researchers.
What the series offers:
- Insights into academic landscapes, research priorities, and funding opportunities across the Global South.
- Perspectives on the benefits and challenges of working internationally, from accessing unique datasets to planning fieldwork.
- Guidance on how universities, research institutions, and funding bodies support early‑career researchers.
- Key ethical considerations, including data sovereignty, authorship, and fair knowledge exchange.
- Insights into open science practices and collaborative publishing with Global South partners.
- Practical advice for conducting field research, including logistics, legal aspects, and ethical responsibilities.
