TAT Talks – Spotlight on Global Collaborations with Impact

Answers to today's pressing challenges – from global warming to resource scarcity – can only be shaped through global collaboration. What future skills do innovative minds need, and how can we foster successful North-South collaboration? We cordially invite the TUM community to approach these questions by joining our upcoming "TAT Talks" in June, jointly organized by TUM Graduate School with the TUM SEED Center and the World Food Programme (WFP) Innovation Accelerator.

Our new format highlights sustainable and innovative projects and invites experts from research and the humanitarian sector to learn from best-practice solutions and discuss what it takes to create a long-lasting positive impact.  The series is part of the TUM.Africa Talent Program (TAT), that brings together researchers from Sub-Saharan Africa with TUM researchers and aims to foster long-term collaboration and exchange in research and beyond.  

TUM.Africa Talent x TUM SEED Center: "Research with Impact in a Transforming World – Insights from North-South Research Collaborations "on 4 June, 6 p.m.  

In the face of global sustainability challenges, TUM SEED is a melting pot for students, scholars and researchers to share inventive concepts and engage in solution-driven studies. The TUM SEED Center conducts research and offers higher education at the intersection of sustainable energies, entrepreneurship, and development (SEED) in the Global South.  

Together with our colleagues from the TUM SEED Center, the TUM Graduate School cordially invites you to the event "Research with impact in a transforming world – insights from North-South research collaborations. " The event offers a platform for exchange, featuring keynote speeches by Professor Miranda Schreurs and Professor Frank-Martin Belz, as well as spotlights from doctoral candidates on their North-South collaboration, followed by networking opportunities over snacks and drinks. We will delve into the topic of North-South cooperation in everyday research routines and our speakers will share their hands-on perspectives from their research projects. Take this opportunity to share your experiences and discuss with your peers what is needed for impactful international research collaborations aimed at addressing global problems.  

TUM.Africa Talent x WFP Innovation Accelerator: "Human-Centered Design: Innovative Solutions in the Humanitarian Sector" on 11 June, 4 p.m.  

The WFP Innovation Accelerator was launched by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in 2015 to source new ideas, sprint pilot projects, and scale high-impact innovations by connecting them with WFP's global network in over 120 countries and territories. From its base in Munich, Germany, the WFP Innovation Accelerator has grown to become one of the world's leading social impact startup accelerators, addressing a wide range of social impact and sustainability issues.  

We invite you to look behind the scenes at the WFP Innovation Accelerator with our speaker Gonzalo Rodino, Design & Innovation Lead. He will provide an overview of the human-centered design methodology and its profound impact on designing solutions for humanitarian crises. Specifically, he will delve into a case study highlighting the application of human-centered design in facilitating a collaborative process with 22 different partners. Gain insights into the process of designing, prototyping, and testing an infectious disease treatment module for Ebola outbreaks and emergencies.
