Nacaps – A New Study on Doctoral Candidates in Germany

Kurse & Veranstaltungen |

TUM is partner of the National Academics Panel Study (Nacaps) of the German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies (DZHW). Nacaps is a new longitudinal study on doctoral candidates and doctorate holders.

Nacaps will generate versatile research data on the study conditions for doctorates, career aims and professional development, as well as on the general life situation of doctoral candidates and doctorate holders in Germany. Therefore, in February 2019, more than 50,000 doctoral candidates throughout the country will be invited to take part in the survey.

The results of the survey will be used by researchers for scientific publications. They will furthermore help the participating institutions and decision makers in higher education and science policy to evaluate the effectiveness of services or programs and thus to improve doctorate conditions and support early career researchers more effectively.

Take Part!

In February 2019, all doctoral candidates of TUM will be invited to take part in the survey. You will receive a personalized link leading to the online survey.

Depending on your personal situation, it will take you between 20 and 30 minutes to complete the online questionnaire. The questions will focus mainly on the current status of your doctoral studies, your career targets and life goals.

If you give your consent we will invite you to also take part in the annual follow-up surveys, since it is these that will provide us the longitudinal perspective on doctoral candidates’ careers and life paths.

Even if you feel that you did not follow the usual path to, or during, your doctoral studies, your participation is very important because only with a wide range of respondents can we gain a full picture of the doctorate landscape. This also applies if you only came to Germany for your doctorate or if you intend to leave Germany after completing your doctorate.

Support us with your participation – as a colleague!
