Practical Research Experience Program – Call for Projects 2019

Kurse & Veranstaltungen |

Take advantage of the opportunity to attract talented students from excellent North American universities for 10 weeks over the summer for your research projects via the Practical Research Experience Program (PREP).

The Practical Research Experience Program (PREP) enables 30 students of select universities from the USA and Canada to participate each year in research projects at TUM during a minimum of 10 weeks of their summer break. So far students from MIT, Harvard, Duke, British Columbia and Georgia Tech amongst others did research at TUM via PREP. The program is administered centrally by TUM International Center (IC) and enables TUM researchers to employ excellent international students in their ongoing research projects without high administrative effort and to establish or to strengthen research cooperations with North American universities.

The administrative side (application administration, enrollment, housing support etc.) is completely covered by the TUM IC and the scientists can concentrate on the selection and academic support of the PREP students. The students receive individual support from the program manager in the TUM IC and the buddies organized by the TUM IC, a partial scholarship as well as the reservation of a dormitory room. In addition, a cultural framework program organized by the TUM IC with an orientation week to support the integration of students at TUM and in Munich is part of the PREP experience.

Since all organizational issues can be clarified largely during the PREP orientation week, the PREP students, who are from experience very motivated, are able to concentrate 10 complete working weeks on their research project full-time and help to make considerable progress.

Kick-off Event: May 28, 2019
Orientation Week: May 28 – June 3, 2019
Research projects: June 4 – August 13, 2019 (10 weeks, extendable on request)
Closing Event: August 13, 2019

All TUM departments are again most welcome to submit their projects for PREP 2019 (May 28 - August 13, 2019, extendable on request) from now until August 17, 2018. A short form for your project description can be found online

You have the possibility to keep the project content in the description still quite general and to adapt the exact content of the project, if necessary, to the academic background of your PREP participant. Please ensure that your PREP projects are reserved exclusively for PREP participants until the end of the selection process (end of January 2019).

For further information, please contact the TUM International Center or visit the PREP homepage.
